Abstract One of the fundamental theoretical challenges of Critical Theory in contemporary times is to develop, on the one hand, an explanatory diagnosis capable of identifying all the complexity of gender domination relations in their intersection with the variables of class and race, and on the other, to think possibilities of resistance to such relationships that are inscribed in the present itself. In this scenario, this research will focus on how Amy Allen faces such challenges in the article On Judith's Butler Theory of subjection (2006) and mainly in the work The Politics of Our Selves (2008). In this book, based on a productive synthesis between Habermas, Foucault, Judith Butler and Seyla Benhabib, Amy Allen thinks together, on the one hand, the role of power in the formation of subjects - the question of subjection, therefore - and on the other, the possibility of preserving the autonomy, critical consciousness and agency of subjects in the face of a power that constitutes them subjectively. This is with the fundamental purpose of developing conceptions of domination and resistance that fulfill the critical task of providing, at the same time, a complex explanatory diagnosis in relation to gender domination, but also alternatives and emancipatory potentials embedded in the present itself. | |
