Abstract

The research seeks to analyze the novel Nação Crioula: A Correspondência Secreta de Fradique Mendes, by José Eduardo Agualusa, in contrast to the book A Correspondência de Fradique Mendes, by Eça de Queirós. Furthermore, we seek to understand the differences proposed by Agualusa in the reconstruction of the queirosian heteronym, such as the reconstruction of the Portuguese, Angolan, and Brazilian reality, and the social and economic centralization of slavery. In this sense, the work will carry out a theoretical-critical analysis seeking to understand how the character of Carlos Fradique Mendes enables a reconstruction reading of the "lusophone world", as well as carrying out an approach to the connection between literature and society within the perspective of comparative studies of Portuguese language literature, to understand the relevance and contemporary uses of Fradique's resignification within the concept of historiographic metafiction.
