Abstract

This post-doctoral research aims to expand and/or deepen the doctoral research. The doctoral research was entitled: "New Urban Centralities in Angola: an analysis of the emergence, growth and contradictions of living in Angola's new urban centralities". The aim was to understand the factors associated with transformations in the urban space of Angolan cities in the post-war period. In addition to presenting a discussion of the Angolan urban phenomenon in the 20th and 21st centuries (from the colonial neighbourhoods to the precarious/precarcerized human settlements "musseques") and the financing agreements with China for the reconstruction (road, port, airport, hydroelectric, housing and other infrastructures) of Angola in the post-war period, the doctoral research carried out fieldwork in four new urban centralities located in three of Angola's largest provinces: (a) the urban centrality of "Kilamba", in Luanda; (b) the urban centrality of "Sequele", in Luanda; (c) the urban centrality of "5 de Abril", in Namibe; (d) the urban centrality of "Quilemba", in Huíla. We use the expression "New Urban Centralities in Angola" to refer to the construction of new cities from scratch, new housing projects provided with a variety of infrastructures, equipment and services in contrast to the majority of Angolan cities marked by "musseques".Data was collected in the field by means of a survey of 320 residents of the new urban centralities between 01/03/2022 and 30/04/2022. The survey aimed to: (a) provide general information on the profile of the residents; (b) draw comparisons between their previous and current place of residence; (c) identify the main problems in the centralities.PART IIThis post-doctoral research aims: on the one hand, to expand and deepen the doctoral research; on the other hand, to participate in teaching, academic and scientific activities at FAU/USP, in scientific events in Brazil and abroad, as well as publishing scientific articles. With regard to the first aspect, the aim is to collect data in the field in new urban centralities in six (6) other provinces that were not covered in the doctoral research. Unlike the centralities studied in the doctorate, which are located in the main Angolan provinces and therefore have greater urban and socio-economic dynamics, the centralities to be studied in the post-doctorate are more located in the interior provinces. Our intention is to understand issues relating to the territorial and urban characterization of these provinces, the characterization of the musseques in these provinces and to establish comparisons between the profile of the residents and the main problems of the centralities studied in the doctorate and those of the centralities being studied in the post-doctorate.The second aspect involves: (a) participation and/or collaboration in research by the thematic group and LahHab events; (b) mentoring research work to LahHab undergraduate and graduate students; (c) participation as a listener or communicator at scientific events; (d) publication of at least three articles; (d) teaching or collaborating in teaching classes in any related discipline offered in the program.
