Abstract

The main cause of surgical acute abdomen worldwide is acute appendicitis, occurring in about 7% of the world's population, with this being the most common abdominal surgery in children. There is evidence favoring the laparoscopic approach, and some authors describe the possibility of performing it through a single incision in umbilical portals. We will conduct a retrospective analysis of medical records from a single center of patients undergoing laparoscopy with a single umbilical incision, aged between 0 and 18 years from 2020 to 2023. Demographic data, diagnostic methods for acute appendicitis, surgery and anesthesia time, hospital stay, antibiotic use, and postoperative complications will be extracted. The analyses will be compared with data from specialized literature with laparotomic and conventional laparoscopic techniques, as well as by age subgroups and body mass index, factors that can markedly impose technical differences.
