Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study will be to analyze the influence of ultraviolet light wavelength on the intensity of fluorescence emitted by composite resins.Methods: Cylindrical-shaped specimens measuring 5 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick will be made using different types of composite resins from different manufacturers (n=5). As a control group, 5 healthy human teeth will be selected. The fluorescence emitted by the different resins will be evaluated using the two different methods. First, the specimens will be taken to a spectrofluorophotometer in which they will be subjected to an excitation wavelength of 365 nm and emission intensity data collected. They will then be subjected to a wavelength of 395 nm and emission data will be obtained again. In the second method, the specimens will be taken together to a standardized light booth and first exposed to UV light at 365 nm, after which a photograph will be obtained. Next, the ambient light will be changed to 395 nm and a new photograph will be obtained. The images will be analyzed by the Adobe Photoshop program, obtaining the chromatic coordinate value L*. The data will be subjected to normality and homoscedasticity analysis using the Kolmogorov Smirnov and Levene tests. Inferential statistics will consist of variance and comparison tests most appropriate to the type of distribution obtained. The significance level adopted will be 5%.
