Abstract

In Brazil, the homeless population was estimated at 236,400 in 2022. The search to overcome this reality is urgent, as it constitutes a violation of the fundamental right to access housing, which has hindered the resolution of the other forms of violence that this population experiences, such as those related to mental health. To contribute to this, the present work consists of an integrative literature review on Housing First (HF), an innovative housing program that considers access to suitable housing as the first step in overcoming homelessness and improving the quality of life of this population. Different implementations, outcomes, and challenges of this strategy in various scientifically reported contexts will be identified and compared, contributing to the understanding and synthesis of international and national experiences regarding the program. Considering the Brazilian government's initiatives for the implementation of HF in the country, this work aims to contribute to the discussion and explore its possibilities and means of implementation in Brazil as a public policy.
