Abstract Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid materials, where inorganic metallic-oxide clusters are interconnected by organic linkers, forming a well-defined porous network suitable for many applications, such as gas storage, separation of molecular species, energy storage, catalysis, photonics, pharmaceuticals, among others. On the other hand, inorganic glasses typically consist of multiple components, which can be adjusted to yield desired optical and mechanical properties. These inorganic materials possess the chemical, thermal, and mechanical robustness required for multiple applications. A new class of composite materials emerge from the combination of MOFs and inorganic glasses. These composites combine the versatility of MOFs with the properties of in have clear advantage due to the processability from the molten state, allowing shaping possibilities which are not possible with traditional MOFs. In this project we will exploit the phase mixing between MOFs with intense luminescence and inorganic glasses in order to create a MOF-glass composites. The structure of selected MOF-glasses will be characterized and correlated with optical and mechanical properties. | |
