Abstract

Mathematical modeling is an effective tool for describing real phenomena in various areas ofknowledge, including biology. The dynamics of the virus-host interaction can be modeledthrough mathematical models, such as prey-predator. This scientific initiation project aims tostudy the interaction of the Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (hRSV) with A549 lung cells, using the Lotka-Volterra mathematical model to simulate the dynamics of the infection. ThehRSV is a virus that causes acute infections of the human respiratory tract, mainly inchildren under five years of age and the elderly. Because it is responsible for a high rate ofmorbidity and mortality, hRSV pathology has been extensively studied, both in vitro and invivo, but scientific efforts have not yet led to efficient measures to combat hRSV that benefitall groups of risk. Gaps in how the virus-host interaction occurs have directly affected thestrategies and actions to be followed for the development of lasting immunity, or evenefficient therapeutic drugs. The impact of this interface may evolve as studies applymathematical modeling, are fed by experimental data, and then describe the process ofinfection and dissemination of hRSV viral particles in vitro.
