Abstract

Dysarthrias are speech disorders resulting from motor programming or execution deficits, caused by lesions in the central and/or peripheral nervous system. Individuals with communication disorders can experience restricted communicative participation, which interferes with interpersonal relationships and, consequently, the individual'squality of life. Changes in communication style, relationships, leisure activities, lifestyle, and the risk of social exclusion are common. Studies on communicative participation and the impact of communication disorders on the social life of patients with dysarthria are scarce in Brazil. Although there are studies in other countries, it is known that the Brazilian social reality can cause distinct impacts on communication. Therefore, this study aims to map the communicative contexts considered most challenging in daily situations for this population of patients, seeking to prioritize the contextual factors that serve as facilitators or barriers to communicative participation for individuals with dysarthria. This is an observational, descriptive, prospective study that will be conducted at the Acquired Neurological Disorders Outpatient Clinic of the Speech Therapy Department of the Escola Paulista de Medicina - EPM/Universidade Federal de São Paulo - UNIFESP.Thirty patients diagnosed with dysarthria will respond to a participatory communicationquestionnaire from the Integrated Assessment Battery BAIF-BO (Barreto & Ortiz, 2023).The responses provided by the patients will be statistically analyzed to map the most problematic communicative contexts for this population.
