Abstract

The electrification of the aviation has brought new aircraft configurations, which generally have lightweight wings with high aspect ratios. These wings tends to be more flexible, which makes them susceptible to large displacements when in operation. Because of that, it's essential to consider their geometric non-linear behavior on the simulations. Furthermore, in the case of the so-called HALE (High Altitude - Long Endurance) aircrafts and EVTOLs (Electrical Vertical Take-Off and Landing), which generally have propeller based engines fixed to extremely flexible wings, even greater complexity is introduced into the problem and the aeroelastic behavior of the structure can be significantly affected. Therefore, this research project proposes the development of a computational model for the dynamic aeroelastic analysis of aircrafts with highly flexible wings, considering a propeller based propulsion, enabling the prediction of the classical flutter and of the whirl flutter, which occurs due to to the gyroscopic coupling of the propeller movement, and the analysis of limit cycle oscillations. For that, a non-linear beam finite element structural dynamic formulation, based on displacements, will be coupled with the Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method, enabling the resolution of the aeroelastic problem considering the isolated flexible wing, the isolated propulsion system and both components coupled.
