Abstract Public transportation users often need to employ some alternate form of transportation to cover the short distances before they reach the nearest mass transit system. This movement, referred to as the "last mile," is typically costly and inefficient. An emerging alternative involves the use of vans (microtransit), which originate from or travel to high-capacity and medium-capacity transportation hubs, operating in a Mobility-on-Demand (MoD) format. In this project, the researcher will evaluate routing algorithms for On-Demand Vehicle Systems, implementing and testing them through simulations in MatSim. The objective is to assess which types of algorithms perform best in the context of São Paulo and propose machine learning-based approaches to enhance these algorithms. | |
