Abstract

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) applied to geological formations stands as a potential avenue for achieving net zero CO2 emissions, thereby contributing to limiting global warming. Despiteits potential, several critical questions persist regarding the optimal procedures for promoting the CO2 mineralization and identifying the most suitable rock types for this purpose. This project aims to address these knowledge gaps through a continuation of an in-depth characterization of rocks from Rio Bonito (BR) formation, specifically evaluating their viability for CCS. The project unfolds through a series of bench tests focused on mineral dissolution and precipitation processes. Simultaneously, it involves the preparation and improvement of sample environments, facilitating the in-situ monitoring of fluid-rock interactions. The project will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dra. Lin Ma at the University of Manchester, UK. Leveraging her expertise and infrastructure, the project aims to surmount existing experimental limitations.
