Abstract A procedure is outline in this scientific initiation work for the design of tandem propellers. The specific tandem propeller arrangement discussed will be two propellers operating one behind the other, on the same shaft with the same rotational speed and direction of rotation, in a configuration known as co-rotating propellers. Tandem propellers at co-rotating conditions are traditionally used in marineoperations, i.e., under different Reynolds numbers and in absence of flow compressibility effects. The specific design procedure under investigation will be for the tandem unit operating in uniform inflow. A tandem propeller unit designed using this method will be built for experimental investigation in wind tunnel for known freestream conditions. The computed performance data are the basis of comparison for demonstrating the feasibility of tandem propellers configurations in terms of thrust efficiency when comparing to a single propeller at same operational conditions.
