Abstract

This research project under a visiting stay abroad proposes to produce an ethnographic short film about the Day of the Dead at three sites (Merida, San Andrés Míxquic, and San Diego). Footage from the first two sites have already been collected in field trips in 2022 and 2023, and this year a trip to San Diego is scheduled to tape the celebrations known as Santa Ana's Dia de los Muertos Festival. The documentary will then be edited and the film put up for public viewing at suitable venues. Parallel with this, the writing up of a book monograph, under the working title of Drinking with the Dead - The Day of the Dead and the Ritual Labor of Life will continue together with academic articles and conference presentations.
