Abstract

The power demanded for aircraft propulsion indicates that it is necessary to operate with higher voltages than the MEA precepts (typically up to 270 V, in DC). For the kV range, this increased voltage poses challenges regarding the system components: cables, electrical machines, converters, protections, etc. Regarding the power electronic converters (PEC) for propulsion, the focus is on topologies using wide band gap (WBG) devices. Such devices, due to their fast switching capability (high dv/dt and di/dt) impose new challenges concerning the effect of the parasitic inductances and capacitances present in the complete circuit, including the power converter, the load and the connections.
