Abstract

This activity plan aims to present the general lines around which the first topic of axis two (2) of the main project intends to be built. The aim is to promote an incursion into the works of Jessé Souza with special attention to the book Os batalhadores brasileiros: nova classe média ou nova classe trabalhadora originally published in 2012, although, evidently, other works by the author can be included in the analysis.According to what Jessé Souza presents in the book in question, especially since the early 2000s, "a new and modern social class has emerged in Brazilian society, the product of recent transformations in world capitalism, which is situated between the rabble and the middle and upper classes". This new class would be characterized not only by being "included in the economic system", but also by being "producers of valued goods and services" and being "growing consumers of durable goods and services that were previously the privilege of the middle and upper classes" (SOUZA, 2012, p. 26). This new social group is conceptually understood by the author as battlers. In this sense, the main objective of this individual activity plan is to analyze the aforementioned work with the intention of answering the following question, which is part of the central question guiding this strand of the research: What are the levels of lack of access to what has been socially produced and what are the reasons for this?
