Abstract

This proposal is linked to the research project Transatlantic musical connections: São Paulo on the route of musical theatre touring companies. . Its main achievement will be to feed the database Teatro Musicado em São Paulo (1914-1934) with information on the popular opera companies that visited São Paulo during the period under analysis. The research aims to investigate the origin of these troupes (identified as "Italian", but formed mainly by Italian immigrants living in Brazil), as well as their impact on theatrical and musical life in São Paulo.The aim is also to identify the agents who took part in them, such as Arturo de Angelis, an Italian conductor who ended up settling in Brazil, the singer and director Alfredo Landi or the businessmen Armando Belardi and Luigi Billoro.
