Abstract

In several therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in pediatrics, patient sedation is responsible for promoting greater comfort and safety. Due to the expansion of technologies and, therefore, progressive increase in the use of this type of sedoanalgesia, it is necessary that pediatricians master the management of these drugs and aim to obtain safer techniques. Currently, several studies have introduced intranasal Midazolam as an alternative for this type of procedure. However, these studies don't frequently approach the pediatric population, therefore, there is a need to conduct new studies aiming to clarify the particularities of the pediatric population for this route of administration. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of intranasal Midazolam for sedation in diagnostic procedures in pediatric pacients, comparing the doses of 0,4 mg/kg/dose and 0,5 mg/kg/dose. Methods: The patients between the ages of 0 and 5 years old who arrive at the Referred Emergency Room of the "Hospital das Clínicas de Botucatu", and need to be sedated for diagnostic procedures will be included in the study. They will then be divided according to their age group (0 to 2 years old and 3 to 5 years old) and the dose of medication will be randomized (0,4mg/kg or 0,5mg/kg). Clinical data from before, during and after the sedation procedure will be collected and analyzed. Afterwards, a descriptive statistical analysis of the data will be conducted, for qualitative and quantitative variables, with the objective of comparing the efficacy and the side effects obtained with each dose of medication.
