Abstract This research project aims to map the beginning ofwhale fishing activity on the coast of São Paulo and analyze its importance for the economycolonial. Furthermore, we intend to examine the interaction of colonial society in São Paulo with thiselement of nature, highlighting the duality of environmental and human exploitation thatcharacterized this practice. The study period covers the years 1727 to 1748, coveringthe changes that occurred in the São Paulo context due to the introduction of interest in frameswhaling boats on the coast of São Paulo, until the transformations that led the captaincy to becomesubordinate to Rio de Janeiro, and the impacts on fishing practices. To achieve the objectivesproposed, the documentary survey carried out in the Council's separate documents will be usedUltramarino, and which will be accessed by Projeto Resgate, referring to the years mentioned. Aanalysis of the documents will seek to understand the various agents involved in this process, theirform of regulation, as well as their interests in environmental exploration. | |
