Abstract

Alternatives to the use of live animals have been implemented in teaching and research in courses of veterinary medicine. The usage of cadavers has proven to be an ethically viable option for surgical learning, which promotes practical efficiency, improves learning, presents lower cost and the possibility of repetition in training. However, the disposal of this material can generate biological accumulation and result in consequences for the environment. The aim of this work is to evaluate the conservation of sets of viscera (stomach, spleen and intestines - SSIS - of cats) with two preservative solutions, in relation to microbiology, biomechanics and scores attributed by undergraduates who have already studied the Discipline of Operative/Surgical Technique or professionals in the field of Veterinary Medicine, assigning grades from 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent) for conservation quality. 24 cadavers will be used, 8 for group 1 (G1 - Glycerinated ethyl alcohol and curing salts), 8 for group 2 (G2 - curing salts) and 8 fresh, recently thawed cadavers for evaluation by scores. With this project, we hope to determine the best protocol for conserving the sets of viscera analyzed, thus being able to use isolated viscera from necropsies, in addition to reducing the amount of biological material sent for sanitary disposal, avoiding the accumulation of carcasses and soil contamination. and groundwater, reducing the environmental impact.
