Abstract

This project concerns the study and numerical implementation of conjugate heat transfer mechanism for simulating phase change with the phase field lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), considering an assessment of this mechanism influence on simulated results. The proposal involves the study and implementation of conjugate heat transfermechanism through the the use of energy equation in enthalpy form that will be used in the phase field LBM. Attention will be given to correctly implement the energy equation considering the properties dependence on temperature following, commonly not considered in the current models. Simple problems with analytical solutions and other more complicated will be solved using the codes that are being developed in the research group. The solutions of more complicated problems, as those related to boiling, will need the study of energy conservation equation in more details. The test problems will involve the heat transfer between two solids with different thermal properties and a solid and liquid in contact, the heat transfer across a heat exchanger surface, the natural convection considering the conduction at the domain base and the nucleation of a vapor bubble.
