Abstract

The main research problem is: concerning Rosa Luxemburg's category of imperialism and Leon Trotsky's notion of uneven and combined development, how to reconstruct the historical process of Nigeria that led to the emergence of social tensions resulting in the rise of the fundamentalist group Boko Haram, based on relevant literature? The hypothesis is based on the Luxemburgist analytical perspective of the need for British imperialism expansion into non-capitalist areas of the globe, to which the precursor colony of Nigeria was subjected, as well as disparate developments and social configurations between the North and South of the country as aspects linked to Trotsky's proposed category for analysis. Regarding the research methodology, the study relied on a bibliographic review focused on the country's formation, external interference, and developments, using the case study method. In terms of methodology as an extension of the theoretical framework, the study adopts a more holistic, multidimensional perspective in terms of internal and external aspects, always in accordance with the Marxist profile of the chosen categories. In this sense, the analysis emphasizes the array of social forces and contradictory interests that permeate imperialist expansion, as well as the unequal times of historical transformation for the case at hand.
