Abstract With the technological development, several tools have been created to facilitate the daily activities of human beings, both in their leisure time and in their work time. The daily activities of human beings, both in moments of leisure and in the time allocated to work. With this in mind, a device that deserves prominence in contemporary society is the smartphone, once the technological tool makes it possible to make and receive calls, listen to music, send and receive messages and receive messages via WhatsApp, among other things. Not only adults, but especially children and young people frequently use these devices, including within the school space. In this sense, a question arises: In times of digital culture in which the smartphone is a multifunctional instrument present in the lives of students: What would be the teacher's role when facing the presence of this technology in the classroom? Based on the theorists of the Critical Theory of Society, especially Theodor W. Adorno, Max Horkheimer and Christoph Türcke, we adopted as methodology the choice of a public school in the city of São Carlos of the public school system in the city of São Carlos-SP, where, based on semi-structured interviews interviews and a questionnaire based on the Likert scale, both directed to 25 high school teachers the educator's role in relation to the presence of the smartphone in the classroom. presence of the smartphone in the classroom.
