Fluorescence evaluation of composite resins with different opacities

Abstract

During the composite resin layering technique, the professional combines different resin opacities to obtain more natural and aesthetic results. However, the fluorescence of this material can vary according to its opacity, influencing the restoration result. Therefore, the aim of this study will be to evaluate the fluorescence of composite resin with different opacities. Two resin opacities will be analyzed (D - dentin only; E - enamel only) and the combination between them (DE - dentin+enamel). Composite resin disks measuring 5 mm in diameter will be prepared. For groups D and E, the composite will be inserted into a matrix measuring 2 mm thick; it will then be leveled with a glass slide and photoactivated. For group DE, the dentin opacity composite will be prepared as mentioned previously and then a matrix measuring 1 mm thick will be positioned above it for the preparation of the enamel layer, following the same steps. The specimens will be planed and polished with silicon carbide sandpaper in descending order of grain (#600, #800 and #1200). Three readings of each specimen will be taken on a fluorescence spectrophotometer to obtain an average for each specimen. The data will be subjected to statistical tests of normality and homogeneity and analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-test (±<0.05).
