Abstract

This proposal is linked to the research project Transatlantic musical connections: São Paulo on the route of musical theatre touring companies. Its main achievement will be to feed the database Teatro Musicado em São Paulo (1914-1934) with information on the Italian and Italo-Brazilian operetta companies that visited São Paulo during the period under analysis. The research aims to investigate how the presence of these troupes impacted São Paulo's theatrical and musical life and integrated the city into a global flow of cultural goods, not only through the repertoire they brought, but also through the agents who took part in them, many of whom ended up settling in Brazil, such as the composer and conductor Lamberto Baldi; the actor, impresario and theatre director Luigi della Guardia; or the actress and impresaria Lea Candini.
