Abstract

This research intends to investigate the Etymologies, written in the first half of the 7th century by Isidore of Seville (560-636), Visigoth bishop, with the participation of Bráulio of Zaragoza (590-651), based on the character of its circulation, which spanned several centuries. The work is composed of 20 books that represent the synthesis of Western Christian thought at the turn of the 6th to the 7th century and circulated in manuscript, in full, added or partial form, throughout Europe for almost a thousand years, serving different purposes, mainly for the education of young clergy in Western monasteries. In this way, we hope to understand, in dialogue with Connected History, the dissemination of the work, which had more than a thousand copies, including complete, partial and fragments, made throughout the Middle Ages, in addition to printed versions from the 15th century onwards.
