Abstract

individuals' fundamental rights, in addition to being closely related to citizenship and the identity of a nation. This research project aims to investigate and analyze how the right to nationality was addressed during the debates and deliberations of the National Constituent Assembly held in the period from 1987 to 1988 in Brazil. It is a historical research that will be conducted through an exploratory approach, initially seeking to identify and organize the available documents. The records of debates, minutes, documents, and materials related to the work carried out by the Commission on Sovereignty and the Rights and Guarantees of Man and Woman will be primarily analyzed, with a specific focus on the role played by the Subcommittee on Nationality, Sovereignty, and International Relations, aiming to identify the main points discussed, the perspectives of the constituents, and the possible changes or continuities regarding the treatment of this right in the Brazilian Constitution. The research results will be relevant to the field of constitutional law, providing insights for reflections on the evolution and challenges of the right to nationality in the post-constitutional Brazilian context.
