Abstract

Introduction: One of the behavioral factors related to an increased risk of up to three times for the development of urinary incontinence (UI) in Brazilian women is the practice of high-impact sports on the pelvic floor (PF). PF High-impact sports are those that involve repetitive movements that generate an increase in intra-abdominal pressure and/or jumping. Despite not being considered a sport, some dance modalities could be classified as a high-impact due to the number of movements performed repetitively that generate an increase in intra-abdominal pressure. Among the most practiced dance modalities, ballet was the only one whose prevalence of PF dysfunctions was studied. It was found a 43% prevalence of UI among practitioners. Objective: The primary objective of this study is to identify the occurrence of PF dysfunctions in dancers living in Ribeirão Preto-SP. The secondary objective is to identify whether there is an influence of different dance modalities, preparatory training intensities and practice time on the prevalence of AP dysfunctions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical case-control study conducted in Ribeirão Preto (SP) using structured questions and validated questionnaires (WHOQOL-bref, ICIQ-UI-SF, PFIQ-7 and PFDI-20) . The "case group" are dancers enrolled in schools and/or dance companies in Ribeirão Preto, while the "control group" are sedentary women with age and parity matched to the "case group" and residing in Ribeirão Preto.
