Abstract

Oncological emergencies (EOs) are acute conditions caused by the tumor itself or its treatment and require immediate intervention due to the risk of life-threatening or severe permanent damage to the patient. This project aims to describe the epidemiological profile of EOs in Brazil from 2008 to 2023. Considering the context of population aging and changes in the country's epidemiological profile, especially regarding the increased incidence of cancer, the study aims to deepen the understanding of EOs. Based on public data sources such as the Hospital Information System (SIH) of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) and population estimates from the Ministry of Health, notifications of EOs will be analyzed, considering variables such as sex, age group, macro-region,and associated cancer type. Additionally, intra-hospital mortality rates, temporal trends in incidence and mortality, as well as the epidemiological and economic profile of these emergencies, will be evaluated. The analysis of results will be conducted using statistical software, including the "devtools" and "microdatasus" packages in the R language, with methods such as the Prais-Winsten model for temporal trend analysis and econometric evaluation to estimate the total economic burden of EOs. The results will be published in international scientific journals and disseminated in an accessible manner to the general public, aiming to contribute to the improvement of health policies and the development of more effective strategies to address EOs in Brazil.
