Abstract

However, few new therapies have been advanced in recent years. The outlook for treatment with surgery alone or combined with chemotherapy is also poor, with typical survival of about three and six months, respectively. Literature reviews, retrospective studies reporting on overall survival and studies on molecular aspects of HEC have been performed in the last few past years. These researches appointed the relevance of developing new models to investigate effective therapies for the disease. The ex vivo model for drug screening has been used with success in clinical practice to find new light therapies for different tumor subtypes, such as canine lymphoma; while an in vitro model will allow us to validate a drug screening model by establishing cell cultures from different dogs and testing different drugs to evaluate their antitumor effect. Therefore, the major significance that can be achieved from this research is to provide support for a clinical trial for dogs with hemangiosarcoma, being useful for patients and society by reducing the cost of drug production.
