Abstract

Many material properties can be determined using the basic processes of optical phenomena,such as reflection, transmission, absorption, fluorescence and scattering. Spectral characterization of light sources is of great importance, as it measures the spectral distribution of radiation,such as the measurement of spectral irradiance (W/m2/nm). The colorimetric quantities are calculated using the spectral power P0(») and the reflectance R(») or transmittance T(»), where,using these calculations, it is possible to obtain the variables that represent the different color spaces called by the CIE (International Commission on Illumination), These include theCIE XYZ space and the CIELAB space, which will be explored in this project with the aim ofbuilding and calibrating a colorimeter for total and diffuse reflection and transmission measurements. The project can be presented in 3 groups of activities: a) construction of the two spheresfor measuring reflectance and transmittance; b) calibration of the system in spectral power fortransmission and in terms of L*a*b* for reflection; c) finally, measurements for calibration withcommercial equipment: a colorimeter for analyzing color properties and a calibrated integratingsphere for measuring spectral power.
