Abstract

This project proposes the development, by scholarship holder Artur Soares Rodrigues, of the calculation and analysis of quark and gluon propagators in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at finite temperature, in the lattice formulation. To this end, lattice QCD at zero temperature will initially be considered, with emphasis on conceptual aspects such as the area law and its relationship with confinement, involving the calculation of plaquettes and other observablesof interest. The simulations will be carried out with codes completely prepared by the student, following methods already studied and developed during his scientific initiation. The extension to finite temperature implies changes in the boundary conditions of the problem along the temporal direction, and adaptation of codes, without major technical difficulties. However, the simulation in this case is much more laborious (with more parameters) and the phenomenology involved is much more subtle and complex. In particular, we seek to understand the phase transition of deconfinement of the color charge, originating the so-called quark-gluon plasma. In this project we will investigate this transition through the calculation of correlation functions of gluon and quark fields at finite temperature, in the Landau gauge, for pure SU(3) gauge theory, or pure QCD. The study can be extended to the case of complete QCD, as part of the Thematic Project "Lattice QCD in Brazil (BLQCD): From Fundamentals toApplications", under analysis by FAPESP.
