Abstract

Plants are characterized as sessile organisms, and can be subjected to various environmental pressures and, as a result, it can develop the so-called stress memory, a process that consists of storing metabolic information about stressful conditions in order to acquire more efficient responses to following stress condition. Salinity, for example, can cause physiological and metabolic changes, besides to negative effects on water availability. In this context and with the possibility of satisfactory answers, the present work aims to evaluate the physiology and biochemistry responses of the micro-tom (MT) plant (Solanum lycopersicum L.) to different concentrations of salinity. The experiment will be carried out in a greenhouse with two stages. The MT seeds will be sowend in trays and ten-day-old plants will be collected before stress-condition exposure. Plants will be submited to salt concentrations during five days and the seedlings will be transplanted to Leonard pots with sand of medium texture, mixed with Styrofoam flakes (3:1) and nutrient solution (Hoagland and Arnon (1950)), modified according to Pino-Nunes (2005). Finally, the second stage will consist of evaluation the transplanted seedlings. The experimental design will be completely randomized, in a factorial experiment (5x3) under three salt concentrations of NaCl (0, 40 and 120mM).
