Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious public health issue, with various complications affecting target organs due to increased glycemia. The main complications include visual, renal, and foot alterations. Diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) is one of the primary complications affecting the feet, and when combined with motor, vascular, and sensory changes, it increases the risk of infections, plantar ulcers, and amputations. Given the rising number of individuals with DM, the deficits associated with diabetic foot, the new rehabilitation technologies, and the impact of comprehensive self-care on the quality of life of individuals with this condition, the study "Implementation of a Contextually Appropriate Intervention in Primary Care for the Feet of People with Diabetes - FOCAIN," led by the Biomechanics Laboratory of Human Movement and Posture (LaBIMPH) at the University of São Paulo, based on implementation science, aims to incorporate a diabetic foot prevention program into the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Care Line for Adults of the Ministry of Health within the primary care system in the municipality of Limeira/SP. The project at hand is a subset of the FOCAIN study and aims to analyze the barriers and facilitators to its implementation. | |
