Abstract

The rapid growth of cities, along with social inequality and urban planning that doesn't consider rural areas, makes it challenging for local governments to adapt to the effects of climate change. Priority actions for cities should focus on improving basic urban services and infrastructure, designing better neighborhoods and housing, and building structures that can reduce the impact of climate change on urban populations. This research aims to conduct a comprehensive review of the literature on the factors that can help cities increase their capacity to adapt to climate change, with a specific focus on the housing dimension. The goal is to explore innovative and sustainable strategies within knowledge and innovation districts. The housing dimension examines the relationship between climate vulnerability and urban housing characteristics, location, and modalities, and is crucial due to its significant impact on cities. It is in the urban fringes that the recent knowledge and innovation districts are generally located - integrated centers for generating knowledge, learning, marketing, and experimenting with ways of living. Based on urban development centered on these aspects, these territories seek a way to integrate socio-economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and a fair socio-spatial order.
