Abstract

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid materials, where inorganic clusters are interconnected by organic linkers, giving origin to two- or three-dimensional porous networks. Research regarding MOF traditionally focus on the crystalline domain. However, monolithic or powder crystals are difficult to handle, limiting industrial performance. For this reason, research towards the synthesis and characterization of non-crystalline structures is growing. In particular, MOF-glasses are just recently gaining attention. They have clear advantage due to the processability from the molten state, allowing shaping possibilities which are not possible with traditional MOFs. In this project we propose explorative research regarding the glass-forming ability of a specific class of MOFs, the Zeolitic Imidazole Frameworks (ZIFs). A complete solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) study of the systems will be performed and correlated with the glass-forming ability of selected compositions.
