Abstract

To date, there are no records in the literature of investigations that have performed the aging of PMMA for CAD/CAM in organic solvents associated with immersion in dye solutions, with the purpose of verifying whether the solvents can cause degradation on the PMMA surface, enhancing the staining by dye solutions. Thus, the general objective of this study will be to characterize the surface and analyze the optical characteristics of a PMMA block for CAD/CAM, polished with diamond-coated silicone tips and immersed in organic solvents simulating food associated with dye solutions. The study will analyze five factors: (1) prefabricated polymer block (PMMA) for the CAD/CAM system; (2) Surface treatment (POG) using a universal polishing system composed of diamond-coated silicone tips (OptraGloss/Ivoclar); (3) Immersion in 04 organic solvents that simulate food: dry control (IS), distilled water (IA), absolute ethanol - Merck (IE), Heptane (IH) and Citric Acid (IC); (4) Immersion in dye solutions after organic solvents (distilled water (IAD), soluble coffee (ICS), black tea (ICP) and red wine (IVT) for 36 days (IS+IAD, IS+ICS, IS+ICP, IS+IVT, IA+IAD, IA+ICS, IA+ICP, IA+IVT, IE+IAD, IE+ICS, IE+ICP, IE+IVT, IH+IAD, IH+ICS, IH+ICP, IH+IVT, IC+IAD, IC+ICS, IC+ICP e IC+IVT); (05) Analysis times at 3 levels: TB - after 24 h of surface treatment, stored in dry conditions at 37oC (baseline); T1 - after 7 days of immersion (IA, IE, IH and IC) at 37oC and T2 - after 7 days of immersion in organic solvents + 36 days of immersion in dye solutions at 37oC. Four response variables will be considered: (1) surface characterization by means of roughness (Ra); (2) analysis of color change, using ¿E00 values; (3) translucency analysis (TP); and (4) contrast analysis (CR). The quantitative data obtained in each analysis will be subjected to the normality test and subsequently to the most appropriate statistical test, with a significance level of 5%.
