Abstract

Single-color composite resins (universal, monochromatic, single shade) have emerged on the market, promising color matching of dental materials without the need for the prior clinical step of color selection. The objective of the study is to characterize single-color composite resins in terms of their chromatic properties compared to their conventional counterparts. To achieve this, commercially available conventional composite resins will be evaluated: nanoparticle (Palfique LX5, Tokuyama) or nano-hybrid (Vittra, FGM, and Forma, Ultradent), and their respective single-color commercial counterparts: nanoparticle (Omnichroma, Tokuyama Dental) and nano-hybrid (Unique, FGM, and Transcend, Ultradent). Samples (Ø6 mm × 2 mm) will be prepared (n = 12) and quantified using reflectance spectrophotometry analysis (CM 700d, Minolta) for CIELab* coordinates, translucency (TPab and TP00/CIEDE2000), and whiteness index (whiteness index dentistry, WID). The analyses will be performed in a standardized light booth (GTI MiniMatcher MM 1, Graphic Technology Inc.), with a D65 illuminant, and on white and black backgrounds. Subsequently, fluorescence will be determined by photographs using an ultraviolet illuminant and measured with specific software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Systems). The results will be subjected to exploratory analysis and evaluated for normality, homoscedasticity, and data distribution. The most appropriate statistical test will be chosen, with a significance level set at 5% (¿=0.05).
