Abstract

Introduction: Chronic and oncological diseases impact lifestyle by directly influencing habits and behavioral choices that are fundamental to promoting well-being and maintaining health. It is crucial to recognize that a patient's clinical diagnosis can compromise one or more pillars of these habits, impacting their overall health. This complex interaction between clinical diagnosis and the pillars of lifestyle medicine highlights the need for a personalized approach in healthcare delivery. Understanding how different health conditions affect patients' life patterns is essential for developing effective intervention strategies aimed at promoting healthcare tailored to individual needs, improving quality of life. Justification: This research proposes to evaluate the lifestyle pillars in patients with oncological diseases admitted to a public tertiary hospital, comparing them with patients with other chronic diseases, and understanding the impact of different diseases on lifestyle pillars to guide intra- and extra-hospital health promotion actions. Hypothesis: Lifestyle is impaired in chronic diseases; the impairment in lifestyle is greater in oncological diseases compared to other chronic diseases. Objectives: To evaluate the lifestyle pillars in patients with oncological diseases admitted to a public tertiary hospital and compare them with patients with other chronic diseases. To identify priority pillars for lifestyle interventions according to the underlying disease. Materials and Methods: Patients aged 18 years or older admitted to the Medical Clinic ward of a public tertiary hospital will be recruited. Data collection will include epidemiological information, medical history, comorbidities, and vital signs obtained from medical records. Questionnaires: SPMSQ to assess cognitive capacity and FANTASTIC for self-assessment of lifestyle will be applied within the first 48 hours of admission. Statistical Analysis: Descriptive and inferential analyses will be conducted using Chi-square tests, Fisher's exact tests, Student's t-test, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Duncan test, Dunn-Bonferroni test, and Pearson correlation, with a significance level of 5%. Expected Results: To map the impact of different chronic diseases on lifestyle pillars. The research protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo, and participants will be invited to sign the Informed Consent Form (ICF).
