Abstract

Energy is a critical component of poultry diets, essential for growth and production. The proposed project aims to implement a net energy system to optimize diet formulation by accurately determining both energy requirements and feed energy values for poultry. This approach promises greater accuracy in predicting dietary responses, cost-effective formulations, and the inclusion of alternative ingredients, thereby optimizing nitrogen utilization by reducing crude protein levels. The project involves developing practical spreadsheets and computational tools to integrate energy requirement models and net energy values for various poultry categories. The methodology includes collecting and analyzing data on fasting heat production and energy retention across different bird categories, considering factors such as ambient temperature and physiological responses. Additionally, the project will validate and integrate net energy prediction equations for feeds, based on extensive databases of nutritional composition from various regional feed tables. A feed formulator will be developed using optimization techniques to provide user-friendly tools for nutritionists, researchers, and professionals. This formulator will facilitate practical applications and educational purposes, promoting the net energy system's adoption in the poultry industry. The research will be conducted in collaboration with INRAe, leveraging their advanced facilities and expertise in nutritional modeling and energy metabolism. The expected outcomes include improved diet formulations, enhanced research skills for the postdoctoral fellow, and the dissemination of knowledge through seminars, training, and digital media, contributing to the scientific community and practical poultry production
