Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is one of the main causes of disability and mortality in Brazil, with negative repercussions and a direct impact on the participation and quality of life of stroke survivors. According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), participation is defined as an individual's involvement in a real-life situation. Furthermore, it is considered a key indicator of rehabilitation success; however, there are no culturally adapted instruments to assess this construct in the Brazilian context. The Participation Measure-3 Domains, 4 Dimensions (PM-3D4D) is a questionnaire that considers the complexity and multidimensionality of participation and was developed to assess it in three domains (productivity, social and community) and four dimensions (frequency, diversity, desire for change and difficulty). However, this instrument has not yet been translated or adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. Objectives: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the PM-3D4D to Brazilian Portuguese, ensuring semantic, idiomatic, experiential, and conceptual equivalence, in addition to evaluating its applicability in the post-stroke population. Methods: The study will be conducted remotely and will follow the guidelines of Beaton et al. (2000) for cross-cultural adaptation, including the steps of initial translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert review, and pre-testing. The pre-test will be conducted with 30 post-stroke individuals who meet the inclusion criteria, such as a minimum score on the Mini-Mental State Examination. During the pre-test, the questionnaire will be presented through slides shared in video calls. Expected Results: The "Participation Measure-3 Domains, 4 Dimensions (PM-3D4D)" is expected to be clear and well adapted to the Brazilian culture in patients with chronic hemiparesis post-stroke, and to fill a gap in the assessment of social participation in Brazil. The instrument may support therapeutic interventions and public policies, contributing to greater specificity of therapy and better quality of life for individuals with chronic post-stroke hemiparesis.
