Abstract

Introduction: Understanding the learning styles of medical students is crucial to adapt educational strategies to individual needs and optimize knowledge retention. Therefore, the demanding medical curriculum requires the adaptation of the teaching methodology to be used by the institution based on the learning preferences of its students. However, it is also necessary to know the learning style of medical students who carry out or have carried out Scientific Initiation and Technological Innovation research, since this is a gap to be filled in research involving medical education aimed at studying the current profile of medical students and its impact on academic performance within and outside the classroom. Objectives: To characterize the learning styles of students who carry out or have carried out Scientific Initiation (SI) and Technological Innovation (TI) research at the Jundiaí School of Medicine. Method: This research will assess the learning style of students who participate or have participated in CI and IT research. For this purpose, the EdA (Learning Styles 1.0) application will be used, which has 44 questions from the questionnaire known as the Index of Learning Styles (ILS) by Felder-Soloman to verify the learning style indexes. In this way, the profile of these student researchers will be assessed in the following categories: perception (sensory/intuitive, assesses how the individual responds to the teaching environment), input (visual/verbal, assesses how information is received), processing (active/reflective, assesses how information is processed) and comprehension (sequential/global, assesses how the individual understands the information). The data obtained will be subjected to a non-parametric statistical analysis to verify the most predominant type of profile among the student researchers. Expected result: With this information, there will be support for this medical school to become an institution of great relevance in the production of scientific knowledge, in addition to improving the training of future doctors focused on research, which is essential to the academic training of the student.
