Abstract This project aims to investigate the field of plastic arts and the construction of racial hierarchies in legitimizing institutions, through the analysis of the trajectory of the painter Maria Auxiliadora da Silva, a black artist who suffered different categorizations and the unique circulation of her work throughout the years, intending to contribute to the reconstruction of Brazilian social thought during 1950 to 1970. The aim is to observe the way in which family experiences and social origin articulate with aspirations and influence the artists work, tracing mainly the racial coercion in the formation of hierarchies and the functioning of the artistic field in 1950. To achieve this goal, this research aims to to relate approaches from the field of sociology of racism, as well as the sociology of culture, specifically the artistic fields. | |
