Abstract

Introduction: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are prevalent and impact quality of life, sexual health, and individual productivity. Urinary symptoms can be classified into three categories: storage symptoms, voiding symptoms, and post-micturition symptoms, and they can originate from the bladder, prostate, urethra, or adjacent pelvic organs. The anatomical and functional proximity may explain the coexistence of urinary symptoms and bowel disorders. Objectives: To assess the correlation between inflammatory disease activity and the prevalence of urinary symptoms through tools that analyze inflammatory disease activity, LUTS, and the impact on quality of life. As well as investigating possible associations between sociodemographic characteristics and the severity of LUTS and inflammatory bowel disease activity. Materials and Methods: The frequency of lower urinary tract symptoms and the impact on quality of life will be analyzed using questionnaires (ICIQ-MLUTS, ICQ-FLUTS, and ICIQ-OAB), and inflammatory disease activity will be assessed through clinical specific scores (CDAI, PDAI and partial Mayo score), endoscopic exams (CDEIS and Endoscopic Mayo Score) and data from imaging exams (enterography by nuclear magnetic resonance or computed tomography). Data for statistical analysis will be collected through the questionnaires and imaging and laboratory tests performed, and each patient's information will be entered into an Excel spreadsheet for subsequent application of univariate and multivariate analysis tests. Keywords: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, Overactive Urinary Bladder, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn Disease, Quality of Life
