Abstract

Introduction and Justification:Population aging in Brazil is rapidly intensifying, with 32 million elderly people expected by 2025 and 72.4 million by 2100 (40.1% of the population). However, increased longevity does not necessarily mean better health, as there may be a rise in chronic diseases. Women live longer than men (79.9 vs. 72.8 years in 2020) due to biological, behavioral, and social factors, in addition to seeking more preventive care and adopting less risky lifestyles. Differences in stress response and inflammation also impact health. Therefore, it is important to study the health care behaviors of men and women, physical exercise, and medical evaluations before starting physical activity. Objectives: To evaluate the difference between male and female athletes (amateur or professional) in terms of demographic data, clinical characteristics, and readiness assessments for physical activity. Materials and Methods: The study will be observational, cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive. Volunteers of both sexes, aged 25 years or older, who practice sports (competitive or amateur) will be allocated into groups by sex. They will complete questionnaires about sociodemographic and clinical profiles, type, frequency, and duration of the sport, prior evaluations, and the PAR-Q+ questionnaire. Shapiro-Wilk or Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests will be used for normality, and t-student or Mann-Whitney tests will be applied. Keywords: Athletes, readiness, physical activity, sport, sex.
