Abstract BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia, schizotypal disorders, and delusional disorders are mental health conditions with significant impacts on disability and healthcare costs. In Brazil, these disorders represent a substantial economic burden, primarily associated with hospital admissions. Analyzing the evolution of these data over time may support the development of more effective public policies for mental health management. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence and costs associated with hospital admissions for schizophrenia, schizotypal, and delusional disorders in Brazil, between 2014 and 2024, considering variations by sex, age group, and geopolitical regions. METHODS: This is an ecological time-series study using secondary data from DATASUS. Hospital admissions and costs recorded under ICD-10 codes F20 to F29 will be included. The analysis will employ Prais-Winsten linear regression to identify temporal trends, with results presented as age-adjusted rates. Data processing will be conducted using Stata software version 18.0®. EXPECTED RESULTS: An increase in the incidence of hospital admissions and related costs is anticipated, with a higher prevalence in young men and women in their 20s, and greater concentration in urban areas. The results are expected to inform management strategies and public policies focused on mental health in Brazil. | |
