Abstract

The present research is dedicated to understanding the causes that contribute to the formation of dream images, primarily guided by Henri Bergson's theory of dreams. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to draw from the investigations of the french spiritualist philosopher regarding memory, as it is from his theory of memory that Bergson derives significant conclusions about the types of memory, their functions, the relationship between memory and the images that arise in consciousness during sleep, and about consciousness itself - which is continued, rather than interrupted, during dreaming. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the extent to which the sleeper's psychic activity and the sensory excitation from the environment in which they are located contribute to the construction of dream content.
