Abstract

Metal additive manufacturing (AM) is a recent manufacturing process that has been evolving constantly in recent years. Various approaches have been proposed to reduce printing time and increase the productivity of this method, making it cheaper and more attractive for industrial use. This project aims to optimize laser fusion processes in AM, focusing on using a programmable diameter and shape laser beam to process the H13 and M300 steels and the CuCrZr alloy. Combining computational simulation and experimental validation, the main goal is to develop technical sheets of the ferrous materials for Ansys Additive software while defining optimized processing parameters for all the alloys. The study will evaluate the influence of beam shape and diameter, platform temperature, and other parameters on melt pool morphology and microstructure, in addition to developing a predictive model to simulate melt pool formation and temperature distribution. The results will contribute to the simulation of new material usage, aiding in the characterization and understanding of the evolution of melt pool morphology and size, as well as evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of using variable diameter and shape lasers in AM.
