Abstract

The present doctoral project aims to investigate the management of "minority" by the São Paulo Social Service for Minors (1935-1952), analyzing case files to understand how this category was constructed and used to justify state interventions. The research will employ a pragmatic approach and lexicometric tools to analyze the Service's records as devices of capture that shaped the perception of minority and the actions taken upon it. Furthermore, the project seeks to evaluate the role of the family as a mediator between institutions and minors, as the examination of family conditions by the Service appeared to be a determining factor in the minors' outcomes within the system. This research falls within the field of studies on the history of violence and social policies, contributing to research groups in Brazil and France.
