Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a significant role in land use change, particularly in Brazil, where extensive land occupation is a prominent feature. Given the connection between food production and ecosystem services and biodiversity, there is an urgent need to understand the relationships between the different components of the landscape as a means of minimizing the impacts of environmental degradation. In this way, the silvopastoral system is a way of developing the multifunctionality of the landscape, incorporating benefits for livestock, farmers and the environment. The project employs satellite imagery from the CBERS-4A and Sentinel-2A satellites, geoprocessing techniques, and Google Earth Engine algorithms to test the hypothesis that the higher density of tree cover in paddocks correlates with NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) values obtained for pasture, and to carry out a temporal evolution of the average NDVI (2016-2023), in both the winter (drought) and summer (rainy) periods, on a rural family farm in the municipality of Nova Guarita, in Mato Grosso.
